Master Sport Automobiltechnik (MS) GmbH announces that after several years of dispute with the car manufacturer Renault, it has come to a resolution and the signing of an agreement on the co-existence of brands. The company operates in the global automotive market, and also has a branch in Poland, where a modern manufacture/distribution center is located.
In 2007, Renault Group has sparked controversy accusing the company Master Sport Automobiltechnik (MS) GmbH, that the word “master” in the company name infringes the interests and rights of the Renault brand. According to the incredible interpretation by Renault lawyers, the word is associated uniquely with the car Renault Master, and thus violates the rights of the brand.
This seemingly minor dispute escalated into a long-term lawsuit over the protection of international trademarks.
Eventually, after several years of battle before a German court and patent offices and incurring unusual associated costs, Renault has been “forced” to sign the agreement before the Patent Office in Munich, where it recognizes the coexistence of the Master Sport brand and its trademarks. The Renault’s recognition of the Master Sport brand opens the possibility of expansion in the French market and the markets where Renault has a large share of sales. A plan of development of the Master Sport brand in France has already been approved. The first commercial steps have been taken as a consequence of Master Sport’s extremely successful presence at the EquipAuto fair 2013 in Paris and the contracts concluded there.
